Weddings cakes are an important part of your weddings. They are displayed for all your guests to see and the cutting is very popular for guests and photos. Here are a few ideas for you when choosing the size of your wedding cake and how to serve.

Wedding cakes come in many shapes, sizes and flavours. It can be overwhelming for some, and easy to get carried away with the sizing. A few ideas will help you choose the perfect wedding cake, without having too much cake left over.

Cakes can be one layer or multi-layer. They are generally selected to suit the colour and theme of your wedding reception. It is normal for cake to be served for guests to eat at the wedding, or to take home to enjoy. One layer is kept by the bride and groom to enjoy after the wedding is over.

If your caterer is providing dessert as part of the menu option, it may be a good idea to reduce the size of cake for your wedding. As guests will have dessert options served, the quantity of cake for guests can be reduced.

It is a great idea to cut the cake before dinner, so the cake can be cut ready to place on plates after dinner. Cake can be served in many ways

Cut and serve from the cake table to guests
One platter per table for guests to help themselves
Place cake bags on platter so guests can eat or pack to take home
Not all guests will feel like eating sweets, especially if drinks like beer are being consumed. As guests will be busy catching up with friends and family, it is easy to quickly pack a piece into a bag and take on departure.

If you wedding cake is being served for dessert, discuss with your cake supplier the size that would suit the number of guests attending. If you would like your caterer to cut and serve your wedding cake, make sure to discuss this in advance so plates and cutlery are provided. This may cost additional especially if the cake is not cut until after dinner and speeches. It can be a great incorporation to the evening to have one of the family members cut and serve the cake to guests from the cake table, with condiments available.

Selecting your wedding cake is a very personal decision, so enjoy your options and select a cake to suit your style and personality
